This space is for the Human and Natural Disasters Study.

We are learning about bodies of water, such as rivers and creeks.
A natural disaster can occur when rain floods a body of water.
A natural disaster can also happen when there is a lack of rain, such as the recent drought in our area.

You are becoming an historian!

First we will discuss types of natural disasters. There are several examples in the news.
Here is a page with recent news articles about Natural Disasters.
We will view photographs and discuss how the picture tells the story without words.
We will read a news article with a map to learn about geography's impact on weather.
We will learn about a natural disaster that happened in our city and compare it to a natural disaster in a Mexican city (Villahermosa) .
We will learn what makes a creek different from a river.
We will learn about human impact on bodies of water during a historical period of American history.
We will create a digital timeline about the health of a river resulting from human and technological influence. A graphic organizer will help.
We will have written conversations about what we learn every day, so prepare to think critically and make connections to your own life!
